Household insights for healthier, sustainable food futures

What is the Study About?

The Household Food & Health Study is all about understanding how our diets, lifestyles, and food choices are changing as we move towards healthier, more sustainable ways of eating.

We’ll be working with households across the Island of Ireland, following them over time to learn about what people eat, how they live, and how they feel about food.

Unlike many studies that focus on just one person, this  looks at the whole household: families, couples, even housemates, to get the bigger picture of how our food habits fit into everyday life.

What's Involved?

We are looking for households across the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland and to take part in the study.

Participation in the study takes place over two to three weeks. Questionnaires can be completed at your own pace, whenever it suits your schedule.

Households can choose to take part in follow-up studies if they wish. In doing so, they help researchers understand how diets and food habits change over time.

Participation begins with completing online questionnaires about your household’s eating habits and lifestyle. Participants will be asked to complete two online 24-hour dietary recalls and can optionally
provide measurements such as height, weight, blood pressure, a cheek swab, and a small finger-prick blood sample.

We’re creating a unique resource that will help shape the future of food, healthier for us, and healthier for the planet.

How to Take Part

For this study, we are inviting households to take part. A household can be just one person, a family, or multiple people sharing a residence. Anyone over the age of four years old can be included in this study. We will need at least 50% of the members of the household to take part. For example, if there are four people living in your house, we ask that at least two household members participate in the study.

If you have a laptop, smartphone, or other device that connects to the internet, you can answer the questionnaires online. Otherwise, we can post the paper versions of the questionnaires to your home.

By joining, you’re not just filling out a survey; you’re shaping smarter, kinder food systems that work for people and the planet.

Thank you for being part of that story!
